Beeville Blazers

From BR Bullpen

When the Gulf States League became the Lone Star League in 1977, the Beeville, TX entry changed its name from the Beeville Bees to the Beeville Blazers. They finished in the middle of the three-team north division in each half of the schedule and were 37-43 overall. Managed by Bill Bryk, they were outscored 450-444 and drew the smallest crowds in the league, 7,150 fans. The team had some league leaders around - batting titlist Ken Jones (.393/~.512/.632) in the outfield (.857 fielding though), steal king C. Steve Kline (.312/~.416/.423, 51 SB in 60 tries) at shortstop (and a league-best .933 fielding percentage there) and pitcher Nick Baltz (12-5, 2.81, the league leader in wins and third in ERA). Like the league, the team was gone after the year.
