As of 2005, professional baseball has come to McAllen, TX just once since 1950. That was in 1977, when the Lone Star League was home to the McAllen Dusters. The Dusters, managed by Shannon Kelly and Jack Allen, had the worst record in the LSL at 33-45 and were outscored 452-337, with the league's worst offense by 100 runs and 4th of the 6 teams in pitching/defense. Attendance was a respectable 35,752, third in the circuit. Joe Laniak (3-7, 1 Sv, 3.17) was sixth in the league in ERA as one of the team's top performers.
