The Longview Cannibals may also have been called the Longview White Sox in 1939

In 1938 Joe "Lefty" Winfield played for the Longview Cannibals. He was working for Humble Oil at the time when he was approached by the Longview team to pitch. He pitched and won his first game and was signed on. He was 9-5 with a 4.14 ERA in 1938. He was also 33 years old at the time. He went on to play 12 years total and was a manager one year.
