Biographical Information[edit]
Joe "Lefty" Winfield was born in 1904. He played 14 seasons. He started his career in 1938 with the Longview Cannibals. In 1948 he was a player-manager for the Abbeville Athletics which played in the Evangeline League. He ended his career in 1949 with the Tyler Trojans. He had an overall record of 97-87 over 11 seasons. He was 33 years old his rookie year.
Joe played for the Longview Cannibals, the Port Arthur Tarpons, the Fort Worth Cats (Rogers Hornsby was his manager), the New Orleans Pelicans (3 years), the Tyler Tojans, the Wichita Falls Spudders, the Abbeville Athletics, and the Marshall Tigers.
Winfield's best seasons were a 14-7, 1.65 campaign for the 1941 Port Arthur Tarpons (either finishing first or second in ERA) and 20-12 with a 2.51 ERA for the 1946 Tyler Trojans (second in the East Texas League in wins).
