2003 Futures Game
Just as in the 2000 Futures Game, the 2003 Futures Game resulted in a 3-2 win for the USA team. Played on July 13 at U.S. Cellular Field, the star of the show and winner of the Larry Doby Award was US left fielder Grady Sizemore. Hitting second, Sizemore singled in Dave Krynzel with one run and also homered off of Seung Song in the third. The World offense was provided by a solo homer from Alexis Rios and a single by Franklin Gutierrez to score Ramon Nivar. Gutierrez had two of the World's five hits. In the bottom of the sixth, OF Stephen Smitherman took Travis Blackley deep to give the USA the lead for good. Preston Larrison got the win while Royce Ring registered the save.
The U.S. team was managed by Carlton Fisk and the World team by Tony Oliva
