2005 Futures Game

From BR Bullpen

The 2005 Futures Game was played on July 10, 2005 at Comerica Park in Detroit, MI.

As in the first Futures Game six years earlier, the US was shut out by a series of effective pitchers for the World team. Francisco Liriano, Edison Volquez, Yusmeiro Petit, Scott Mathieson, Juan Morillo, Fernando Nieve, Fausto Carmona, Anibal Sanchez and Adam Loewen combined on a four-hitter and held the US's big guns (B.J. Upton, Conor Jackson and Delmon Young) to one hit in six tries. 3B Andy LaRoche had two of the USA's four hits. Third-time Futures Game player Shin-Soo Choo homered off Zach Jackson in the 3rd inning to get the game going and Larry Doby Award winner Justin Huber doubled home Hernan Iribarren and Luis Montanez in the 5th against Paul Maholm; Huber was playing in the contest for the third time as well. Joel Zumaya and Morillo both hit 99 mph in a game of hard-throwing pitchers.
