Biographical Information[edit]
Fernando Nieve was signed by scout Andres Reiner for the Houston Astros in May 1999. He made his pro debut that summer for La Pradera (VSL) and played professionally through the 2014 season for multiple organizations. Nieve spent parts of four seasons in the majors, 2006 & 2008 with the Astros and 2009-2010 with the New York Mets. For his major league career, Nieve posted a 8-11 record with an ERA of 4.61 while appearing in 99 games.
Nieve became a pitching coach with the GCL Pirates in 2019. He was scheduled to be the pitching coach for the Bristol Pirates in 2020 before the season was cancelled due to COVID-19. Nieve was pitching coach of the Bradenton Marauders in 2021, Greensboro Grasshoppers in 2022-2023 and Altoona Curve in 2024.
