North Carolina State League

From BR Bullpen

In 1913 the class D Carolina Association dropped three teams from South Carolina, picked up three others from North Carolina, and adopted the name of North Carolina State League. The name change didn't help the league much, as it played only through 1917. However, like its predecessor, this league was pretty stable for a class D league of that time, with all six cities staying for the full five-year run.

In 1937 another North Carolina State League was established and this one proved to be more solid. The NCSL shut down in 1943 and 1944 due to World War II but amazingly ran during 1945, when very few minor leagues were active. Just three other class D loops ran that season - the Ohio State League, PONY League and Appalachian League. In 1953 the league combined with the Western Carolina League to form the Tar Heel League. There were three cities represented for the full 14-year run: Lexington, NC, Mooresville, NC, and Salisbury, NC.

No city competed in both versions of the North Carolina State League.
