Biographical Information

Elmer Myers pitched eight years in the majors and eleven seasons in the minors.

Born in Pennsylvania, he was signed by the Philadelphia Athletics at age 18. His first minor league team was managed by Earle Mack. In 1914, Elmer pitched a minor league no-hitter. He was used heavily in the minors in 1913-1915, with 300+ innings each year.

He was with the Athletics during part of 1915 and in 1916-1918. Connie Mack's 1916 team won only 36 games all year, but Elmer had 14 of those wins. He had the flu in 1917, and was drafted in 1918. While in France he suffered poison gas twice, and he later stated that it impacted his career. He was traded to the Cleveland Indians in 1919 while still in France.

In July, 1920, he was waived by Cleveland and chosen by the Boston Red Sox. He went 9-1 the rest of the season with the Red Sox. He continued to pitch for Boston in 1921 and 1922, but not as effectively. For the rest of 1922 through 1929 he pitched in the minors. Most notably, he won 20+ games twice in 1926 and 1927 for the Knoxville Smokies.

After baseball he worked for a pork company and later had a cigar store.
