Biographical Information[edit]

George Silvey led the 1934 Nebraska State League with 143 hits and made the all-star team at first base. He managed in the St. Louis Cardinals farm system from 1936 to 1941, and was the business manager for the Johnson City Cardinals in 1942. He also worked in the Cards' scouting department for many years.

In 1960, Silvey was the assistant supervisor of player personnel, in 1961 he was the assistant farm director, and in 1962 he was the director of player development. Silvey was the Cardinals' Scouting Director from 1963 to 1966 and the director of player development again from 1967 to 1969. He returned to the scouting director post from 1970 to 1976, then back to scout from 1977 to 1983. He scouted for the New York Yankees in 1985 and the San Francisco Giants in 1988.
