Biographical Information[edit]

Ollie Vanek was a minor league player, manager, and longtime scout.

Vanek played football at Northwestern University and later was a school teacher in a St. Louis high school during the off-season.

Vanek played minor league ball from 1930 to 1932 in the Mississippi Valley League, then returned from 1937 to 1946, in the St. Louis Cardinals chain.

As a scout for the Cardinals, Vanek is credited with discovering Stan Musial.
