2005 South American Championship

The 2005 South American Championship was held in São Paulo, Brazil from November 26 until December 3, 2005 at Estádio Mie Nishi.

The host  Brazil won the title. They were 5-1 and outscored opponents 37-11; their lone loss came 3-2 to Venezuela but they then topped Venezuela 2-1 in the finale. They were managed by Mitsuyoshi Sato and led by MVP Jô Matumoto and included future major leaguer Paulo Orlando. Other players included P Márcio Sakane, CF Tiago Magalhães, P Rodrigo Miyamoto, César Kameoka, Evaldo Yamaoka, Luis Camargo and Valter Matumoto.

 Venezuela was also 5-1, with a 37-17 run differential. Managed by Henry Campos and coached by Luis Bolívar, Luis Calderón and José Lobatón, the roster consisted of pitchers Luis Salazar, René Bastardo, Jorge Terán, Argenis Landaeta, Luis Colmenares, Rubén Quevedo, Jesús Martínez, Edilio Escobar, Jan Carlos Moreno, Willy Guédez, Alvin Vegas, William Vásquez and Ramón Caraballo, catchers José León, Luis Alen and Manuel Ramírez, infielders Danny Bravo, Yulien García, Dennis Campo, Luis Córdova and Marvin Hurtado and outfielders Germán Chirinos, Luis López and Carlos Mendoza.

 Ecuador went 3-3, losing only to the top two teams, but was outscored 26-19. Managed by Mike Spiers and coached by Jorge Hernández, Dennis Gonçálvez and Jorge Gálvez, their roster consisted of pitchers Arturo Calle, Rafael Escobar, Adolfo Giler, Carlos Mancheno, Ernesto Pólit, Carlos Quirola, Alfredo Venegas, Dionisio Villanueva and Carlos Yerovi, catchers Rafael del Rio, Nelson Saraguayo and Óscar Villamar and infielders or outfielders Jorge Araiza, Manuel Arroba, Luis Atocha, Marco Cano, José Feraud, Juan Antonio Mendoza, Byron Muñoz, Diego Pérez, Darwin Valle, Felipe Valle and Miguel Véliz.

 Colombia was 1-5, outscored 34-19, beating only last-place Argentina, though they came close in the Bronze Medal game (3-2).

 Argentina, the defending champs, went winless and were outscored 36-12. Hector Ramón was one of their coaches.
