Landaeta made his pro debut in 1999 with the DSL Yankees, going 2-1 with a 4.98 ERA. With the same club in 2000, he had a 2-5, 3.15 record. Landaeta split 2001 between the GCL Yankees (6-1, 2.40, .210 opponent average) and the Staten Island Yankees (0-1, 4 R in 6 IP). In 2002, he was with the GCL Yankees (2-1, Sv, 3.65, 26 K in 24 2/3 IP) and the Greensboro Bats (0-2, 15 H, 10 R in 7 IP).

Landaeta was on the Venezuelan national team that won the Silver Medal in the 2005 South American Championship. He allowed four runs in nine innings for Venezuela in the 2006 Central American and Caribbean Games; he led the club with four appearances. In the 2006 American Qualifiers for the 2008 Olympics, Argenis was 1-2 with a 6.55 ERA as one of Venezuela's less-effective moundsmen.

Landaeta was 0-1 with a 8.57 ERA in the 2007 Pan American Games, taking the loss against Mexico.
