Biographical Information[edit]
Oscar Villamar signed with the Philadelphia Phillies in 2000. He never made it to the US minors with them but may have been in the Venezuelan Summer League or Dominican Summer League. He was on the Ecuadorian national team that played in the 2001 Bolivarian Games and that won Bronze in the 2005 South American Championship. He was the starting catcher for Ecuador in the 2006 COPABE qualifiers for the 2008 Olympics. He was 3 for 14 with 3 walks, a double and one run. He made no errors in five games and threw out 3 of 5 attempted base-stealers, but also had five passed balls.
In 2008, he was 1 for 19 with 3 walks for the Midwest Sliders; he fielded .985 at catcher, threw out 3 of 14 base-stealers and had one passed ball. He helped Ecuador to a Silver Medal in the 2011 South American Championship.
