2001 Bolivarian Games
The 2001 Bolivarian Games were the 14th Bolivarian Games from September 7 to September 16, 2001 in Ambato, Ecuador though baseball was held in Guayaquil at Yeyo Uraga ballpark.
Panama went 5-1 in the first round. In the finale, they beat Colombia 5-3, lost 7-5 and then cruised to a 11-1 romp in the finale. It was their first Gold in baseball in the Games, having won Silver the prior three times and Bronze the five times before that, dating back to 1951. Earl Agnoly led the event in average (.541) and runs (9) while Roberto Gutiérrez led in slugging (1.308) and home runs (3).
Venezuela got the Silver, a letdown after having won 9 of the prior 10 Golds. Nelson Echarry led in ERA (0.00).
Colombia took the Bronze, beating Ecuador 6-1 in the Bronze Medal game.
Ecuador placed last.
