Biographical Information

Mitsuyoshi Sato has been a player and manager for the Brazilian national team.

He was the manager of the Brazilian national team for over two decades, taking over the job in 1983 and holding it through at least 2007. Along the way, he guided Brazil to its second worldwide competition, the 1995 Intercontinental Cup (Brazil's first was the 1972 Amateur World Series, where Sato was a top pitcher and infielder), a near-upset of Cuba in the 2003 Baseball World Cup, the 2005 Baseball World Cup and a Gold Medal in the 2005 South American Championship. He coached for Brazil when they won one of the 2013 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers, 2013 World Baseball Classic and 2017 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers.

His sons Reinaldo Sato, Renan Sato and Estevao Sato all played for Brazil on the international stage. His brother Shigetaka Sato played in Nippon Pro Baseball. He was a member of the technical commission of the IBAF.
