Georgia State League

From BR Bullpen

There have been several minor leagues that have used the title Georgia State League. Since classification of the minors began, all have been labeled as class D loops. In 1906 one such league operated for just a single season. In 1914 the Empire State League renamed itself the Georgia State League but this new GSL didn't even last two years. When the Americus Muckalees moved to Gainesville, FL and became the Gainesville Sharks, the league was renamed the Florida-Alabama-Georgia League to indicate the breadth of the circuit. Another try was made in 1920 but this one too failed to see a third season. The fourth and most successful Georgia State League of the 20th century got started in 1948 and ran through 1956 before it too folded. Douglas, GA and Baxley, GA (in various forms with and without Hazlehurst, GA) were represented all 9 seasons.
