Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Michael Rossi played in the minor leagues from 1940 to 1942, from 1945 to 1949 and in 1951. He began his professional career at 17 years old.

Between two clubs in 1941, he went 16-3 with a 3.69 ERA, including a 14-2, 3.22 line for the Butler Yankees. He then went 17-8, 2.88 in 30 games for the Amsterdam Rugmakers in 1942. After missing the next few years to military service during World War II, he returned to go 16-6 with 17 complete games in 1946. After a couple middling campaigns, he went 25-13 with 32 complete games, 6 shutouts and a 2.80 ERA in 47 games for the Vidalia-Lyons Twins in 1949. More than three years older than the average pitcher in the circuit, he led the Georgia State League in games, complete games, shutouts, innings pitched (325) and hits allowed (319). On July 16, he threw a seven-inning no-hitter against the Tifton Blue Sox. He also managed the Twins for part of the year. After missing 1950, he returned to win 12 games in his final campaign with the Jesup Bees.

He won at least 100 games in his career, to at least 50 losses. He was also skilled with the bat, hitting .309 in 81 at-bats in 1941 and .271 overall per records available.
