1986 Amateur Draft
(Redirected from 1986 amateur draft)
1986 was the last year when a separate January amateur draft was held, on January 14th. P Jeff Shaw was the first selection, by the Cleveland Indians out of Cuyahoga Community College. It was also the final year of the draft having a secondary phase, for players who had been picked in a previous draft but had not signed. Starting in 1987, there would be only one draft, held in early June, covering all eligible players.
