Biographical Information[edit]

Outfielder Terry Carr was the 25th overall selection of the 1986 amateur draft, the third of five first-rounders taken by the California Angels (they had chosen Roberto Hernández first and Lee Stevens three picks earlier). Carr's selection was compensation for the loss of free agent Al Holland to the New York Yankees. Assigned to the Salem Angels, Carr hit .233/~.346/.313 with 36 runs in 48 games. He found himself with the Quad City Angels in 1987 and batted only .204/~.322/.277. He drew 62 walks but was basically a one-dimensional threat as he hit for a poor average with little power. In '88, Terry did even worse for Quad City, mustering just a .156/~.294/.190 line. He stole 17 bases in 20 tries but whiffed 51 times in 179 AB and fielded just .935.

Let go by California, Carr joined the independent Reno Silver Sox in 1989 and hit .255/~.313/.333. He sacrificed walks for a more aggressive style and it paid off as he did not strike out as many times in falling behind in the count. In '90, Terry hit .247/~.324/.323 with the Charleston Wheelers and .151/~.282/.189 for the Palm Springs Angels. After five unimpressive seasons and with declining speed, Carr finished his baseball career that season.
