History, Comments, Contributions[edit]

Although they posted a mediocre record, the1986 Oakland Athletics formed several of the key assets that would lead them to American League pennants from 1988 through 1990. The team hired Tony LaRussa in mid-season, and at about the same time signed Dave Stewart, who had been released by the Philadelphia Phillies earlier that year. Additionally, Jose Canseco won Rookie of the Year honors with his impressive power displays, and near the end of the season Mark McGwire came up to the A's for a few games.
