Team History[edit]
Founded in 1939 by Pedrin Zorrilla, the Cangrejeros de Santurce (Santurce Crabbers) are a long-time member of the Puerto Rican League. They have won 16 championships. Through 2019, their 16 pennants are third in league annals. The Cangrejeros have also won five Caribbean Series - 1951, 1953, 1955, 1993 and 2000. Through 2014, they have won the most Caribbean Series of any Puerto Rican team and were tied for second in Series titles among all nations behind only the Tigres del Licey.
The team won the Inter-American Series in 1962.
In 2005 the Cangrejeros were sold and moved to Arecibo. The team returned to Santurce in 2008 but were gone by the end of the year. In 2012 they rejoined the league. For many years, they shared Sixto Escobar Stadium with their main rivals, the Senadores de San Juan.
In the 1954-55 season, theyir outfield featured two future Hall of Famers in Willie Mays and Roberto Clemente. Not surprisingly, they were league champions that season.
