Biographical Information[edit]
Jack Krol was a longtime minor league manager and big league coach, and was interim manager of the St. Louis Cardinals briefly on two occasions.
An infielder, Krol played 13 seasons of minor league ball, starting in 1954, hitting 145 home runs over that span and reaching the AA level. He began his managerial career in the Cardinal organization in 1966 with the Rock Hill Cardinals. After winning three minor league crowns between 1971 and 1975, he joined the St. Louis coaching staff in 1977. He was the team's interim manager for two games in 1978 between the tenures of Vern Rapp and Ken Boyer, and he led the club for another game in 1980 Cardinals between Boyer and Whitey Herzog. Krol was then a member of the San Diego Padres coaching staff from 1981 to 1986. After managing in the Padres' chain from 1987 to 1990, he was an advance scout for the Cardinals in 1991.
In 18 seasons as a minor league manager, Krol posted a 1,135-1,131 lifetime record.
Fred Koenig was the best man at Krol's wedding and the godfather of Krol's daughter Toni [1]. Krol's grandson Matthew Kinney has been an assistant coach in college at Southeast Missouri State University and United States Military Academy [2].
