Biographical Information[edit]

Father of Danny Tartabull and minor leaguer Jose Tartabull Jr., Jose Tartabull had a nine-year career in the big leagues where he hit only 2 home runs, unlike his son Danny who was a home-run slugger.

Tartabull is remembered by Boston Red Sox fans for throwing out Ken Berry at the plate to end a game in Chicago against the White Sox on August 27, 1967. The teams were tied for first place at the time. The play is the subject of a novel, Tartabull's Throw, by Henry Garfied (Atheneum, 2001).
