(Redirected from 1990 Cuban Serie Nacional)

The 1989-1990 season was the twenty-ninth season of Cuba's national baseball system.

Serie Nacional[edit]

The 29th Serie Nacional was won by Henequeneros, who were managed by Gerardo Junco. The team won the title by winning a playoff series versus the defending champion Santiago de Cuba.

For the first (and only) time in Serie Nacional history two postseason series are played. The first for the championship between the first-place teams in each zona; and the second between the third-place teams of each zona. In the best-of-seven first-place series, Henequeneros of Zona Occidental defeat Santiago de Cuba of Zona Oriental, 4-2. In the best-of-five third-place series, Industriales (Zona Occidental) defeat Granma (Zona Oriental), 3-0.

Omar Linares of Vegueros wins his third batting championship with a .442 average, 76 hits in 172 at-bats. Industriales pitcher Lázaro Valle posts a 8 – 1, the best in the league while fellow capitalino, Osvaldo Fernández G. of Metropolitanos wins a league-leading 12 games.
