Granma has played in the Cuban Serie Nacional since 1977-1978. The team, known as the "Alazanes" (which is the Spanish name for a chestnut-colored horse), is based in Bayamo in Granma Province. They won their first title in 2016-2017, with strong performances that year by MVP Lázaro Blanco on the mound and Dennis Laza at the plate; long-time star Alfredo Despaigne scored the clinching run and Guillermo Avilés came up big in the finale. They repeated in 2017-2018 with a strong postseason; Blanco again was their ace starter while Avilés and Lázaro Cedeño supplied the pop. Their third title came in 2020-2021, with key figures being Avilés, Cedeño and Carlos Benítez on offense and Blanco was again the star hurler.
