Biographical Information[edit]

José García Pérez was an outfielder for Ciego de Ávila in the Cuban Serie Nacional and for the Camagüeyanos in the Series Selectivas. In 1984-1985, he was hit by 10 pitches to tie Luis Cuesta for the Serie Nacional lead. In 1986-1987, he again tied for the hit-by-pitch lead, his 6 equal with three others. He stole 14 bases in 1989-1990 to tie Henry González for the lead in the eastern division. He was plunked by a league-high 16 pitches in 1990-1991.

Overall, he hit .263/.339/.361 in 9 seasons, with 224 runs and 130 RBI in 493 games. He stole 64 bases in 101 tries and fielded .976. His sons Adonis García and José Adolis García played in Cuba and the majors.
