Biographical Information[edit]

Adonis García played for Ciego de Avila in the Cuban leagues. He hit .355/.426/.613 in 2007-2008 to finish 10th in the league in slugging. He played second base, third base, shortstop and center field that year and made the league All-Star team as the utility man. Through 2007-2008, his career average was .293. In 2008-2009, he batted .332/.397/.543 with 13 steals in 19 tries and 16 homers. He tied Giorvis Duvergel for 6th in the league in swipes and tied for 6th with 79 runs.

He hit .471/.514/.529 for Cuba in the 2009 World Port Tournament and played error-free defense at third base. He led the tourney in average (.030 over Ariel Borrero) and OBP (.030 over Yorbis Borroto) and was 4th in slugging. His 16 hits were one behind leader Yoelvis Fiss, the tourney MVP.

García remained productive in 2009-2010, hitting .334/.398/.623. He stole 17 bases in 25 tries and went deep 21 times in 84 games, driving in 67. He was 5th in the league in swipes, 8th in slugging and 8th in total bases (192).

He is the son of outfielder José García and brother of outfielder José Adolis García, who has also played in the majors. In the 2016 Caribbean Series, he played against his brother for the first time as pros.
