Remigio Leal has pitched successfully in Cuba and Spain. He has played for the Spanish national team.

Leal tied for the lead in the 1990 Selective Series with 9 complete games, even with José Ibar, Jorge Luis Valdés and Omar Ajete. He was 53-38 with 8 saves and a 4.16 ERA in 178 games and 9 years in the Cuban leagues, working for Pinar del Rio.

Heading to Spain, the veteran played for Viladecans in 1999 and EMB in 2000. In the 2001 European CupWinners Cup for Arga Burlada, he was 2-0 with a 3.38 ERA. He led in wins, innings (16) and strikeouts (28, 16 more than anyone else). In 2002, he joined the Marlins Puerto Cruz and spent the next four years there. In 2004, he was 6-2 with a 2.61 ERA.

In 2006, Leal joined FC Barcelona and was 7-4 with a 2.09 ERA. He was dominant in 2007, going 9-1 with a 0.79, 85 strikeouts and 13 walks in 90 2/3 IP. He tied for the league lead in wins and was second to fellow Cuban Yoel Hernandez in ERA. He made his first Spanish national team appearance in the 2007 European Championship, beating the Ukraine, getting saves against Germany and Sweden and losing to Great Britain. Overall, he was 1-1 with 2 saves and a 4.50 ERA with 15 strikeouts in 14 innings for the Bronze Medal winners. His two saves led the final round.

In the 2007 Baseball World Cup, Leal took the loss in Spain's first game, against Panama. He then blew a save in the 8th against Japan, entering with a 3-2 lead in relief of Manny Olivera and allowing one run. He was 0-1 with a 7.00 ERA, walking 8 in 9 innings in the event.

Leal was 1-1 with a 8.64 ERA in the 2008 Final Olympic Qualification Tournament. He beat the South African national team in a pitching duel with Barry Armitage but was roughed up by Team Canada.

Leal was a key hurler for FC Barcelona in the 2008 European Cup in Regensburg as they became the first Spanish team in four decades to win a European Cup. He was 1-0 with 2 saves and a 3.38 ERA, striking out 19 in 13 1/3 IP for the 5-0 Barcelona club. He whiffed 16 in a complete game win over the host Regensburg Legionäre. He then got the save in the Gold Medal game against Nettuno. Leal did not lead the Cup in strikeouts, falling two shy of Samuel Meurant.

In the 2008 European Cup Final Four, Leal allowed 2 runs in 6 innings to Montepaschi Grosseto in losing to Junior Oberto.

Leal was 6-2 with a 1.80 ERA for FC Barcelona in 2008. The old-timer signed with Nettuno in Italy for 2009, following fellow Spanish national team members Jorge Balboa and Fernando Gutierrez. In the 2009 European Cup's Nettuno phase, he was 1-0 with 2 saves and a 1.50 ERA, fanning 15 in 12 innings. He debuted in the Italian Baseball League on April 11, allowing 5 hits and 2 runs in 3 innings against Godo after replacing Giovanni Carrara but he got the Opening Day win.
