Jorge Francisco Fumero Fernández
- Height 6' 1", Weight 159 lb.
Jorge Fumero was MVP of the Cuban Serie Nacional and an Olympic Gold Medalist.
The sidearmer had a 1.44 ERA for the Metropolitanos in 1989-1990 to lead the league. It was not enough to get him a spot on the Cuban national team. He was 9-0 for the 1993-1994 Industriales to lead in winning percentage. In game 7 of the finals, though, he blew it by allowing hits to Ariel Pestano and Michel Perdomo to give Villa Clara the title instead.
Jorge had a great relief season in 1995-1996, tying for the Serie Nacional lead with 27 games pitched (all out of the bullpen) and also with a 1.94 ERA, his second ERA title. Fumero was named both the Serie Nacional Most Valuable Player and Serie Nacional Most Valuable Pitcher.
His dominant 1996 campaign got him his lone trip to the Cuban national team. He allowed six runs in 6 1/3 innings in the 1996 Olympics but got both a win (against Italy and a save (against South Korea) to help his country win the Gold Medal.
Fumero led Cuba with 28 games relieved in 1996-1997.
Overall, he spent 11 seasons in Cuba, going 53-35 with 26 saves and a 3.99 ERA in 284 games.
