(Redirected from Henequeneros)

The Henequeneros (Henequen Growers) joined the Cuban Serie Nacional in 1965-1966, representing Matanzas Province. They produced four MVPs - Lino Betancourt, Wilfredo Sánchez (twice), Fernando Sánchez and Jorge Luis Valdés. They won three titles - in 1969-1970 (led by Wilfredo Sánchez), 1989-1990 (behind slugger Lázaro Junco) and 1990-1991 (led by Junco and Valdés). After the 1991-1992 season, they merged with the newer Citricultores to form a unified Matanzas squad once again.
