The Batavia Muckdogs were a member of the New York-Penn League for two decades, by that nickname - and the franchise dated back four decades before that. They played their home games at Dwyer Stadium II in Batavia, New York and used to be named the Batavia Clippers.
Despite Eisenhower-era gaps, Batavia claimed to be the NYPL's only in-place charter franchise. A truly historic claim? Organized Baseball's first black manager (for an affiliated team): Gene Baker, in 1961. The long-time Clippers changed nicknames in 1998 to one fans chose to salute farm-friendly Elba "muck" land.
