Biographical Information[edit]
Jorge Hernandez was named as manager of the GCL Marlins in 2009. He had previously been a coach for the Pensacola Pelicans of the Central Baseball League and American Association from 2004 to 2006. In his first season as a minor league manager, he led the Florida Marlins' Rookie-league affiliate to the best record in the Gulf Coast League.
Hernandez was picked by the Houston Astros in the 9th round of the 1986 amateur draft but did not sign. He helped Troy State win the 1987 Division II World Series.
Hernandez began his coaching career at the University of Mobile in 1993 as a hitting coach then was at Texas A&M for two years. He was hitting coach at the University of West Florida in 2003, then was hitting coach of the GCL Marlins in 2007 and Greensboro Grasshoppers in 2008.
