Biographical Information[edit]
Pitcher John Martin played more than a decade in the minors and later was a long-time scout.
Martin was selected by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 16th round of the 1980 amateur draft. He won 14 games for the St. Petersburg Cardinals in 1983 and threw a 7-inning no-hitter for the Springfield Cardinals the following season. He spent nine years in the Cardinals chain and ended his career with two seasons in the Philadelphia Phillies organization.
Following his playing days, Martin was a pitching coach for the Clearwater Phillies in 1990, Reading Phillies in 1991, Batavia Clippers in 1992-1993, Piedmont Phillies in 1995, Piedmont Boll Weevils in 1996-1997 and Batavia Muckdogs in 1998.
He was a scout for the Seattle Mariners, Florida Marlins, and Baltimore Orioles. Since 2011, he has been scouting for the Houston Astros. He signed Robert Andino, Tim Bascom, Mychal Givens, Manny Machado, Brett Phillips, Gaby Sanchez, Tyler Townsend and Chris Volstad.
Martin was named as one of the 58 players on Washington's Al-Century Team [1]
