Biographical Information[edit]

Ramon Ortiz was a minor league player for five years and has coached in the minors for over 20 years.

Ortiz debuted in 1969 with the GCL Expos (6 for 23, 3 BB) and West Palm Beach Expos (0 for 4, 3 K). He split 1970 between three Expos farm clubs, hitting .235/.303/.272 in 36 games and reaching AAA. He ended up in 1972 with the Key West Conchs, batting only .173/.239/.256.

Ortiz coached for the University of Central Venezuela from 1983-1985. From 1987-1995, he was a coach in the St. Louis Cardinals chain. He was a roving outfield instructor from 1987-1991 and coached for the Johnson City Cardinals in 1989 and Savannah Cardinals in 1992-1994. He then was with the New York Yankees farm system from 1996-1998 including the Greensboro Bats in 1997. He then moved to the Tampa Bay Devil Rays chain from 1999 to 2004 (four years with the Hudson Valley Renegades, followed by two with the Bakersfield Blaze) and Los Angeles Dodgers chain from 2005 to 2007, including Vero Beach Dodgers in 2006 and GCL Dodgers in 2007. He was the hitting coach of the GCL Cardinals in 2008, Batavia Muckdogs in 2009, Johnson City Cardinals in 2010-2012, State College Spikes in 2013-2014, Palm Beach Cardinals in 2015, and Springfield (MO) Cardinals in 2016.
