Biographical Information[edit]

Darren Seferina peaked at AA and later played for the Curaçao national team.

Seferina played for Willemstad in the 2005 Little League World Series and 2006 Little League World Series. [1] He was taken by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 5th round of the 2014 amateur draft, one round after Austin Gomber, and signed for a $100,000 bonus. He hit .294/.358/.366 that summer for the State College Spikes, going 20-for-25 in steal attempts and fielding .961 at second. He was third in the New York-Penn League in swipes, trailing Greg Allen and Coty Blanchard.

He moved up to the Peoria Chiefs in 2015 and batted .295/.354/.446 with 12 triples but was thrown out 17 times in 40 steal attempts. He fielded .971 at 2B. He was named the Midwest League All-Star second baseman. [2] He was among the MWL leaders in average (7th, between Marty Herum and Gleyber Torres), slugging (5th, between Trae Santos and Jose Brizuela), OPS (8th, between Brizuela and Joe Bennie), triples (led Mike Gerber by two) and caught stealing (2nd to Oscar Mercado). [3] He led Cards farmhands in three-baggers, two ahead of Jeremy Hazelbaker.

With the 2016 Palm Beach Cardinals, he slumped to .247/.312/.320 with a .959 fielding but did go 32-for-38 in steal attempts. He was third in the St. Louis minor league system in swipes (behind Eliezer Alvarez and Mercado) and 4th in the Florida State League. He split 2017 between Palm Beach (.278/.356/.407 in 70 G) and the Springfield Cardinals (.278/.357/.410 in 48 G), with amazingly similar lines between the two stops. He led the farm system in triples (10, 2 ahead of Tommy Edman and Carlos Soler) and tied Wilfredo Tovar for third in stolen bases (behind Mercado and Magneuris Sierra).

Darren opened 2018 poorly with Springfield (.159/.197/.319 in 20 G) and was released. The Milwaukee Brewers picked him up and he finished the year with the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (.242/.349/.346 in 63 G) and Biloxi Shuckers (.111/.143/.111 in 14 G). He resurfaced in 2021, batting .231/.336/.385 in 32 games for the independent Winnipeg Goldeyes. He was with Curaçao when they played in the 2021 Caribbean Baseball Cup. [4] He helped them stun the US collegiate All-Stars twice in the 2022 Haarlem Baseball Week, going 2-for-3 in the first matchup and scoring the winning run in the second. He hit .318/.348/.409 for the tournament with five runs and two steals in seven games, fielding .903 at SS. He led the event in runs (beating out established major leaguer Roger Bernadina and top college prospect Dylan Crews among others), tied for second with two doubles (one shy of Alexander Ayala), tied for third in hits (7) and tied for second in swipes. [5]

In the 2022 Caribbean Baseball Cup, he again dazzled at .435/.552/.478 with 8 runs, 6 walks and 5 RBI in 6 games, including a 3-run game against the Bahamas. He fielded .893 at short. The team won its first Caribbean Baseball Cup. He again led a tournament in runs, tied MLB vet Rey Navarro for the most hits (10), tied Navarro for 5th in RBI, tied D'Shawn Knowles for 5th in total bases (11), led in average (.026 ahead of Rubén Castro), led in OBP (.019 ahead of Castro), made the top five in OPS and led in walks (one ahead of Castro, Rayshelon Carolina and Santiago Torres). The only negative was that he led with three errors. He was named the All-Star shortstop. [6] The team won a spot in the 2023 Central American and Caribbean Games.

Playing for the WildCats KJ74 in the 2023 Caribbean Series, he had the first RBI for a Curaçao team in a Caribbean Series. In their opener against the Agricultores de Granma y Las Tunas, his grounder off César García scored Sharlon Schoop. He got the only run in their win over Panama, drawing a walk from Yusniel Padron-Artiles and being driven in by Ray-Patrick Didder. He was only 2-for-18 for the Series, albeit with five walks, and had two runs and one RBI. He was their main third baseman but also backed up Jonathan Schoop at 2B and Andrelton Simmons at SS. In the 2023 Central American and Caribbean Games, he went 4 for 14 with a run and fielded .933 at second for Curaçao. [7] He spent the rest of the summer with Fortitudo Bologna in Italy, batting .316/.468/.510 with 13 steals in 17 tries and fielding .953 at short as they went on to win the 2023 Italian Series. He tied for 5th in the 2023 Serie A1 in stolen bases and was 7th with 89 assists. [8]
