2014 Amateur Draft
(Redirected from 2014 amateur draft)
The 2014 First Year Player Draft was the fiftieth Major League Baseball Amateur Draft. It began on June 5, 2014.
The 2014 draft turned out to be the least successful in history by at least one measure: neither of the top two overall picks made it to the majors, something which has never happened before or since; not only that but neither Brady Aiken nor Tyler Kolek ever pitched higher than Class A. That this would be an unusual draft became clear when Aiken, the first overall pick, failed to come to an agreement with the team that drafted him, the Houston Astros. But the problem was not only with the top picks: an unusually low percentage of players drafted in the first round managed to establish themselves as long-term major leaguers.

17th overall pick Brandon Finnegan was the first player taken in the draft to reach the major leagues, on September 6, 2014.
