Biographical Information[edit]

Outfielder Magneuris Sierra went straight from Class A to the majors when he made his big league debut with the St. Louis Cardinals on May 7, 2017. He was called up to replace the injured Jose Martinez, as he was the only outfielder already on the team's 40-man roster. The big jump to the majors did not faze him, though, as he went 6 for 17 (.353) with 7 runs scored over his first four games, and had at least one hit in his first nine major league games, spread out over three months due to his being sent back down to the minors twice in the interim. That was the Cardinals record for most from the start of a career until phenom Jordan Walker obliterated the mark in 2023. He showed tremendous speed over those first few games, both on the basepaths and in the outfield and overall for the year, he was 19 for 60 (.317) in 22 games, with all the hits being singles, scoring 10 runs. After the season, on December 13th, he was one of four prospects traded by the Cards to the Miami Marlins to acquire All-Star OF Marcell Ozuna. Joining him were Ps Sandy Alcantara, Zac Gallen and Daniel Castano.
