Biographical Information[edit]

Outfielder Dylan Crews was a big star in college, playing for Louisiana State University, and won the Golden Spikes Award as the best college baseball player in the country in 2023. That year, he batted .418 in 69 games, with 18 homers and 69 RBIs and helped lead his school to the title in the 2023 College World Series. He and teammate Paul Skenes, a pitcher, were considered to be on the very short list of favorites to be selected #1 in the 2023 amateur draft and had the chance to be the first ever teammates to go #1 and #2 in the draft. This is exactly what happened as Skenes went first overall to the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Washington Nationals used the second pick to claim Crews.

He made his professional debut shortly after signing with Washington and appeared with three teams in 2023: the FCL Nationals (he went 3 for 3 with a double in his only game), the Fredericksburg Nationals of the Carolina League, and the Harrisburg Senators of the AA Eastern League. In 35 games, his combined slash line was .292/.377/.467 with 5 homers, 26 runs and 29 RBIs. He received an invitation to go to spring training with the major league club in 2024 where he was part of a group of top prospects, a result of the Nats' having been in a high drafting position for a number of years since their World Series triumph in 2019. He started that season with the Harrisburg, where he hit .274 in 51 games, then was promoted to the AAA Rochester Red Wings. He was hitting .271 after 48 games when he received the call to head to Washington on August 23rd. His debut came on August 26th as the starting rightfielder for Washington at home against the New York Yankees. Batting second, he went 0 for 3 with a walk in a 5-2 loss. His first career hit came off defending Cy Young Award winner Gerrit Cole th enxt day, a double off the left-field wall in a 4-2 win. He continued to pile up the firsts on August 28th, when he hit his first career homer, a 399-foot shot to left-center to lead off the game against Carlos Rodon in another win over the Yankees, this one by a 5-2 score. In Nationals history, only one other player, Steve Lombardozzi had hit his first homer while leading off a game, back in 2012. He added a double later in the game.

He played with the USA College National Team at the 2022 Haarlem Baseball Week. His hometown is listed as Longwood, FL and he went to high school in Lake Mary, FL. His favorite player growing up was Bryce Harper.
