Biographical information[edit]
Billy Doyle played minor league ball from 1903 to 1910.
He scouted for the Dallas Giants (1910), St. Louis Browns (1911-1912), Cleveland Indians (1913-1915), Milwaukee Brewers (AA) (1916-1917), Philadelphia Phillies (1918) and Detroit Tigers (1919-1938).
Doyle discovered and/or signed players such as Dale Alexander, Mack Allison, George Baumgardner, Elmer Brown, Ownie Carroll, Nick Carter, Paul Carter, Flea Clifton, Nick Cullop, Hank DeBerry, Pickles Dillhoefer, Frank Doljack, Joe Evans, Rick Ferrell, Floyd Giebell, Izzy Goldstein, Marv Goodwin, Hank Gowdy, Luke Hamlin, Ray Hayworth, Sam Jones, Dickie Kerr, Herman Layne, Danny Litwhiler, Austin McHenry, Bill Moore, Jo-Jo Morrissey, Red Nelson, Big Jeff Pfeffer, Branch Rickey, Joe Shaute, Bill Sherdel, George Sisler, George Smith, Billy Southworth, John Stone, Al Todd, Carl Weilman, Ed Wells, Joe Willis, Les Bell, Tommy Bridges, Hank Greenberg and Boots Poffenberger.
Doyle died in 1939 at age 57 of a cerebral hemorrhage.
