Biographical Information

Anfernee Seymour peaked at AA and has been on the British national team.

Seymour was picked by the Miami Marlins in the 7th round of the 2014 amateur draft, one round before Stone Garrett, and signing for a $400,000 bonus. The scout was Llazaro Llanes. He hit .245/.333/.265 in his pro debut with the GCL Marlins, scoring 24 times in 26 games and stealing 11 bases in 13 tries. He produced at a .273/.338/.349 clip for the '15 Batavia Muckdogs with 29 swipes in 35 attempts. He fielded .899 at short. He was 7th in the New York-Penn League in runs (39), tied for 6th in triples (4) and was second in stolen bases (two behind Johnny Sewald). Despite playing in a short-season loop, he was 4th in the Marlins chain in stolen bases, between John Norwood and Mason Davis.

He began 2016 with the Greensboro Grasshoppers, hitting .255/.295/.308 with 37 steals in 50 tries, fielding .922 at SS. He was then dealt to the Atlanta Braves along with Michael Mader for big leaguer Hunter Cervenka. He hit .266/.298/.279 in 21 games for the Rome Braves after the deal, going 6-for-6 in swipes. Despite having been traded, he nearly led Marlins farmhands in stolen bases, two behind leader Yefri Pérez. He tied D.J. Burt for second in the South Atlantic League in steals, trailing only Eric Jenkins' 51. His 16 sacrifice hits were third in the SAL. He split 2017 between Rome (.287/.345/.352 in 28 G) and the Florida Fire Frogs (.280/.341/.358 in 82 G). He still stole 25 bases but was gunned down 20 times. He moved to the outfield that season.

The Nassau native played in 2018 for the Fire Frogs (.195/.242/.287 in 24 G), Jupiter Hammerheads (.284/.327/.435 in 51 G) and the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (.255/.345/.392 in 25 G). He stole 24 bases in 32 tries and had six triples. He hit .261/.314/.333 for the 2019 Jumbo Shrimp, going 17-for-24 in steals. The 2020 minor league season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In '21, he moved to the independent leagues, batting .231/.308/.338 for the Kane County Cougars and stealing 37 bases in 47 attempts. He was second in the American Association in steals, three behind Logan Trowbridge. He split 2022 between the Charleston Dirty Birds (.253/.317/.387 in 79 G) and Long Island Ducks (.255/.327/.447 in 14 G). He stole 30 bases in 35 tries. He tied Pérez for third in the AA in swipes.

He was one of five Bahamas natives on the British team in the 2022 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers, alongside fellow outfielder D'Shawn Knowles, catcher Ural Forbes and pitchers Tahnaj Thomas and Chavez Fernander. Hitting 9th and playing center in the opener against France, he scored the first run for Britain. Reaching on an Ariel Soriano error (facing Kevin Canelon), he scored on a homer by Harry Ford. His first hit was a single off Mathias LaCombe, part of a 3-hit, 3-RBI day. He went 7-for-12 on the tourney with a walk, five steals in five tries, six runs, five RBI and a triple (off Duke von Schamann) in a splendid three games as Great Britain won a spot in the 2023 World Baseball Classic, their first World Baseball Classic. Following the decisive win over Spain, he raced around the field with a British flag before planting it near home plate. He tied Jesús Ustariz and Noelvi Marte for the tourney lead in runs, tied for second in hits (two behind Leonardo Reginatto), tied for 5th in RBI (with Justin Connell, Demetrius Moorer, Eduardo Zurbriggen and Martin Červenka), easily led in steals (Allen Córdoba and Jonathan Araúz were the only players with two steals; no one else had more than one), was 4th in average (behind Reginatto, Ivan Acuña and Dayle Feldtman), made the top ten in OBP and just missed the top in OPS (.040 behind Ustariz). While Knowles and Forbes also appeared for the Bahamas national team in the 2022 Caribbean Baseball Cup, Seymour was not with the team for that event.
