Biographical Information[edit]

Demetrius Moorer has played in the independent leagues and for the German national team.

Moorer hit .400 with a .508 OBP as a high school junior and .390/.460/? as a senior; he also was a star wide receiver and defensive back in football. [1] He batted .133/.288/.167 as a freshman at EKU, then .232/.395/.293 as a sophomore. Transferring to Point Park, he won a NAIA national Gold Glove. [2] He produced at a .378/.456/.555 clip as a senior with 19 steals and 48 runs in 49 games. [3]

The Floridian began his pro career in 2017 with the San Rafael Pacifics (.263/.435/.279, 68 BB, 30 SB in 37 tries, 54 R in 71 G) and High Desert Yardbirds (1 for 8, 2 BB). He was 6th in the Pacific Association in runs, tied Tillman Pugh for second in swipes (6 behind Matt Hibbert), led in walks (ten ahead of Marcus Bradley) and was 4th in OBP (between Vinny Guglietti and Pugh). He improved to .329/.442/.462 with 44 runs and 40 steals (caught only 4 times) in 37 games for the '18 Yardbirds. He tied Jaqueese Moore for second in the Pecos League in stolen bases, four shy of Wardy Polanco.

In 2019, he moved to the New Jersey Jackals of a higher league, the Canadian-American Association. He produced at a .247/.376/.289 clip with 26 steals in 33 attempts. He tied Chase Harris for 6th in the loop in swipes. He was on the announced German roster for the 2020 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers before that was one of the first baseball events canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. [4] In 2020, he hit .261/.381/.362 for New Jersey in a COVID-19-shortened season. The Jackals moved to the Frontier League in '21, and he hit .256/.369/.349 with 34 steals in 41 tries. He tied for fourth in the circuit in triples (6) and tied Jairus Richards for 7th in stolen bases. He played for the Kentucky Wild Health Genomes in 2022, posting a .227/.349/.314 batting line and going past 150 career steals.

Demetrius then played for Germany in the 2022 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers. Leading off in the opener against Great Britain, he struck out his first at-bat, facing Akeel Morris. He was 0 for 4 with a walk (from Tahnaj Thomas) on the day. While he had never hit more than four homers in a season to that point, he then showed surprising pop against South Africa. He cracked a three-run homer off Robert Lewis-Walker and a two-run shot against Donavon Hendricks. He hit .250/.400/.750 in Germany's three games. He was among the event leaders in homers (tied for second, one behind Mariners top prospect Harry Ford), RBI (most on Germany, tied for 5th with Justin Connell, Anfernee Seymour and Martin Červenka) and walks (3, tied for 4th). Among those with 10+ PA, he tied Seymour for 7th in slugging. [5]
