Team History[edit]
The Charleston Dirty Birds of the Atlantic League are formerly the West Virginia Power of the South Atlantic League, who were squeezed out by the 2021 Minor League Reorganization, which eliminated the circuit. They moved to the Atlantic League, from which two teams had left to join the affiliated minors, and began the season under their former name until changing in mid-season to a new moniker. It seems that the "dirty" part of the birds is because they are coal miners, and their logo makes them look as the proverbial "canary in a coal mine".
