Team History[edit]

The Staten Island FerryHawks began play in the Atlantic League in 2022, taking over the former franchise of the Staten Island Yankees, who were squeezed out of Minor League Baseball as part of the 2021 Minor League Reorganization. The Baby Yankees did not take that decision well, suing both Major League Baseball and their parent team, the New York Yankees, for damages. This explains why they did not immediately join the Atlantic League in 2021, when the move of two franchises from the formerly independent league to the affiliated minor leagues created openings for new team.

The FerryHawks made history shortly after joining the league when on April 7th they signed two-way player Kelsie Whitmore to the team. On May 1st, she made history as the first woman to start a game in the circuit's history, playing in left field for the FerryHawks.
