Biographical Information[edit]
Utility man Yefri Perez began his professional career in 2009 at 18 years old. With a career minor league batting average that hovers around .250 and on-base and slugging marks near .300, speed is his primary asset.
He had 21 stolen bases his first campaign, with the DSL Marlins in 2009. After posting low steal totals in the succeeding seasons, he swiped 20 bags in 48 games between the Batavia Muckdogs, Greensboro Grasshoppers and Jupiter Hammerheads in 2013. The next year, he had 30 stolen bases in 118 games for Greensboro and added two more over the winter in the Dominican Republic. In 135 games with Jupiter in 2015, Perez had 71 steals.
He began 2016 in Double A and after stealing 39 bases in 82 games for the Jacksonville Suns, he earned a promotion to the majors without ever playing at Triple A. On July 17th, he made his debut for the Marlins against the St. Louis Cardinals. Appearing as a pinch runner for Cole Gillespie in the top of the 8th inning, Perez stole second and eventually scored on a sacrifice fly by Christian Yelich. After appearing in the next day's game, Perez was optioned back to the minors on July 19th.
He was a Mid-Season All-Star in 2015 and 2016, a Post-Season All-Star in 2015 and a MiLB.com Organization All-Star in 2015.
