Biographical Information[edit]

Chavez Fernander has pitched in the minors and for the Great Britain national team.

The Detroit Tigers took him in the 35th round of the 2018 amateur draft; the scout was R.J. Burgess. [1] He split the summer between the GCL Tigers West (3-1, 1.69 in 10 G), GCL Tigers East (1 R in 12 IP) and Connecticut Tigers (1 R in 1 IP), with an overall 1.59 ERA, .93 WHIP and 41 K in 39 2/3 IP for a fine pro debut. He was 2-2 with a 2.31 ERA for Connecticut in 2019. The 2020 minor league season was wiped out by the COVID-19 pandemic.

In 2021, he pitched for the West Michigan Whitecaps (1-1, 3.86 in 11 G) and Erie SeaWolves (1-1, 3.60 in 22 G), now working primarily out of the bullpen. With the Salt River Rafters in the Arizona Fall League, he allowed four hits, six walks and three runs in eight innings, saving one game. He split 2022 between Erie (1-1, 5.23 in 15 G) and West Michigan (2-3, Sv, 4.03 in 26 G) again.

Fernander was then one of five Bahamas natives on the British team in the 2022 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers, alongside Tahnaj Thomas, Anfernee Seymour, D'Shawn Knowles and Ural Forbes. [2] He pitched one game, facing host Germany. Relieving Alex Webb in the 8th with a 8-1 lead, he struck out Shawn Larry and got Marco Cardoso on a grounder. He walked Simon Gühring then got Lucas Dunn on a liner. Thomas took over in the 9th. [3]
