Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Drew Gagnon has pitched in the major leagues, South Korea and Taiwan. His brother is minor league pitcher Tyler Gagnon.

He was originally drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 10th round of the 2008 amateur draft out of high school, a couple of picks ahead of utility player Chris Herrmann. He did not sign. He was then drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in the third round of the 2011 amateur draft, one pick ahead of pitcher Logan Verrett. He signed a contract; the scout was Josh Belovsky.

After struggling to an 8.05 ERA his first campaign, Gagnon was 7-3 with a 2.83 ERA in 25 starts between the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers and Brevard County Manatees in 2012. He was 7-13 with a 5.43 mark between two clubs in 2013, but rebounded to go 11-6 with a 3.97 ERA in 28 starts for the Huntsville Stars in 2014. He reached Triple A for the first time in 2015 and struggled, going 1-11 with a 6.93 ERA in 20 games for the Colorado Springs Sky Sox. He was 2-12, 6.67 on the year as a whole, having spent time at Double A as well. He began 2016 back with Colorado Springs. He was a Mid-Season All-Star in 2012 and 2014.

On December 13, 2016 Gagnon was traded with catcher Martin Maldonado to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim for catcher Jett Bandy. He was 1-1 with a 6.35 ERA for the Salt Lake Bees in 2017, then he became a free agent. The New York Mets then signed him with a minor league contract, and he was 6-6 with a 4.57 ERA for the AAA Las Vegas 51s. He made his debut on July 10 against the Philadelphia Phillies, and he allowed 6 runs in 4 2/3 innings to get the loss. Gagnon then got his first career win on September 9 against the Phillies with 2 shutout innings. He was 6-5 with a 2.33 ERA in 2019 for the Syracuse Mets, but he had a terrible 8.37 ERA in 18 relief outings with the big club.

The KIA Tigers of the KBO then signed him with a 1-year 850,000 dollars contract, and Gagnon was 11-8 with a 4.34 ERA for them in 2020. He was 6th in strikeouts with 141, between Hyeon-jong Yang and Chan-kyu Im. Gagnon then went to Taiwan and joined the Wei Chuan Dragons of the CPBL. He was 5-7 with a 3.93 ERA in 2021, then he improved to 12-6 with a 2.68 ERA in 2022. Gagnon also attended the 2022 CPBL All-Star Game, and he pitched a shutout inning in Game 1 to get a hold. He ranked 3rd in ERA (between Jake Brigham and Jose De Paula), 3rd in wins (tied Brigham and Tzu-Peng Huang), 2nd in innings (8 behind Brigham) and 2nd in strikeouts (8 behind De Paula). He was named the starter of the 2022 CPBL Playoff Series Game 1, and he pitched 6 1/3 innings with only a run allowed to get the win over Che-Yuan Wu. The CTBC Brothers still eliminated the Dragons in 3 games.

Gagnon then dominated the league in 2023. He was 13-7 with a 3.00 ERA, and he led the league in wins, strikeouts, innings and starts. He ranked 3rd in ERA, between Brock Dykxhoorn and Matthew Kent. In the 2023 Taiwan Series, he allowed 4 runs in 5 innings in Game 3, then he was named the starter of Game 7. Gagnon only allowed 3 runs in 6 innings, and he outdueled Jake Dahlberg and got his first title. He won the CPBL Gold Glove and Best Ten as a pitcher. Gagnon was also named the CPBL Most Valuable Player, and he was the second Dragons player to win this honor, following Mike Garcia in 1997.
