Biographical Information[edit]

Mike Garcia was the only foreign player to win the Chinese Professional Baseball League Most Valuable Player award twice until Jose De Paula did it in 2021. He was the first foreigner to win it in 1997 when he was 7-4 with 20 saves and a 1.89 ERA. 7 years later, after his brief dalliance in the big leagues, the 36-year-old went 7-1 with 26 saves and a 0.71 ERA to take the honor again. His 124 saves were the CPBL record until Yueh-Ping Lin broke it in 2013.

After retiring as a player, he became a scout for the Philadelphia Phillies, signing #1 overall pick Mickey Moniak after the 2016 amateur draft.
