Biographical Information[edit]

Bubby Rossman played for the Israeli national team before making his major league debut.

He played baseball, football and soccer in high school then was 2nd-team All-league in junior college. [1] He hit .286 at Dominguez Hills in 2013, then .261/.383/.455 in 2014 while going 1-2 with a save and a 5.40 ERA. [2] The Los Angeles Dodgers took him in the 22nd round of the 2014 amateur draft. He was 0-2 with a save and a 4.74 ERA for the 2014 AZL Dodgers. In '15, he was 3-1 with 4 saves and a 2.26 ERA for the Great Lakes Loons, striking out 54 in 51 2/3 IP.

Rossman split 2016 between the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes (4-0, 3.52 in 22 G) and AZL Dodgers (1 IP, 0 R). The Dodgers let him go and the tall right-hander signed with the Sioux City Explorers, going 0-2 with a save and a 4.54 ERA. He did not play in 2018. In 2019, he bounced around, making appearances for the Trois-Rivières Aigles (3-0, Sv, 2.41 in 29, 48 K in 33 2/3 IP) and Cleburne Railroaders (1-0, 5.40 in 6 G). That fall, he pitched two shutout innings for the Águilas de Mexicali. In 2021, he was 3-3 with a 5.34 ERA for the York Revolution, fanning 41 but walking 24 in 30 1/3 innings.

He next played for Israel in the 2021 European Championship. In their opener, he got the win over Russia. Relieving D.J. Sharabi in the 9th with a 1-1 tie, the bases loaded and one out, he got Yunior Valiente to hit into a crucial double play. With the WBSC Extra-inning rule, he began the 10th with Russia having two men aboard but he got another twin killing, this one from the bat of Yan Pérez. He struck out Viacheslav Vasilev to end the inning, then Israel scored the winner in the bottom of the frame. His next game, he replaced Sharabi with a 10-3 lead in the 8th against Great Britain. He got Kent Blackstone on a grounder, then Gabriel Rincones Jr. doubles. Alex Crosby grounded out, but Grant Kerry singled in a run. Rossman recovered to fan Shamoy Christopher. Itai Goldner succeeded him in the 9th. His next game, he relieved Shlo Lipetz with a 11-4 lead in the 7th against traditional power Italy. He got a 1-2-3 inning against Noel Gonzalez (GO), Leo Ferrini (K) and Dario Pizzano (FO). In the 8th, he retired Vito Friscia then Alberto Mineo reached on an error. Ty Kelly relieved. His last game, he faced the defending champion Dutch national team in the finale. Relieving Ben Wanger with a 4-1 lead, two on and no out, he had a rough entry when former big leaguer Roger Bernadina hit a game-tying three-run blast. Ray-Patrick Didder singled, stole second, advanced on a wild pitch and scored the winning run on a Sharlon Schoop single (giving Rossman the loss), then Dwayne Kemp reached on an error. Rossman retired Dashenko Ricardo and Juremi Profar but Junior Martina singled to load the bases. He escaped further trouble by getting John Polonius swinging and the game was still close at 5-4. Lipetz took over in the 8th and the Netherlands pulled further out of reach. Israel still had their best finish ever in a European Championship by taking the Silver, Rossman having started things off for them with his win over Russia. He tied for the most games pitched in those Euros (even with Fernando Baez, Robyn Clara, Rhiner Cruz, Franklin De La Rosa, Wendell Floranus, Kevin Kelly and Fred Mosier). [3]

He impressed enough to get another look from a MLB club, as the Philadelphia Phillies signed him. He was 2-2 with a save and a 3.32 ERA in 27 games for the Reading Fightin Phils (48 K in 40 2/3 IP) when he was called up to the majors at age 29, as one of a group of players added to the roster in place of those ineligible to travel to Canada by reason of their vaccination status. In his debut on July 13th, he closed out a loss to the Toronto Blue Jays, relieving Brad Hand with a 6-2 deficit. He walked Alejandro Kirk and surrendered a homer to Teoscar Hernández then recovered to retire Lourdes Gurriel Jr., Matt Chapman (K) and Santiago Espinal. He was sent back to the minors after the cup of coffee in The Show. Nick Duron had made his major league debut earlier in the same game under similar circumstances, and he was also sent back when the ineligible players were able to return to the roster following the foray north of the border.
