Biographical Information[edit]
Robyn Clara has pitched in the Hoofdklasse and for the French national team.
Clara was born in France to a French father and Dutch mother, then the family moved to the Netherlands when he was three years old. [1] He began his career with DSS Haarlem, making his Hoofdklasse debut in 2017. He was 0-1 with a save and a 9.79 ERA in 14 games, allowing a .359 average. He did not have the staff's highest ERA as Gijs Timmer was higher. [2] He had a 0-2, 7.82 record in 2018. [3] In 2019, he improved to 2-1, 5.81 with two saves. His 22 games pitched tied Brendan Schoemaker for 5th in the league. [4]
He joined the French team for the Yoshida Challenge; honkbalsite.com reported that he was the third Dutch player to appear for France as Norbert Jongerius and Omar Williams had previously done so. [5] In the 2019 European Championship, he pitched two games. Against Austria, he relieved Esteban Prioul in the 6th with a 12-5 lead. He retired Felix Zimmerle but walked Dominik Talir and allowed a double to Mortiz Scheicher to close it to 12-6. He retired the other five batters he faced though - Joachim Frick on a fly, Samuel Hackl on a grounder, Benjamin Salzmann on a grounder, Ferdinand Obed on a liner and Julio Rojas by strikeout. Dan Camou then took over. In his other game, he relieved Antoine Rault with a 12-1 lead in the bottom of the 8th against Belgium, with the bases loaded and no out. He got Leonel Reina Viant to ground into a run-scoring force then walked Stephen De Lannoy to load them back up. He recovered to fan Sam Boermans to ensure a mercy rule win. His 3.38 ERA was the best of any French hurler who allowed a run. [6]
